20 WTF Moments From Mankind vs Undertaker - King Of The Ring 98

Arguably the most iconic match of all time. Unquestionably the most insane.

Few wrestling matches are as revered as Undertaker vs Mankind at King of the Ring 1998. Although hardly a classic in any technical sense of the term, the bout lives on as the jaw-dropping pinnacle of the WWE's most shocking era. Most iconic matches feature one iconic spot - Hogan's slamming of Andre, for example, or Stone Cold passing out in Bret Hart's Sharpshooter. Undertaker vs Mankind features two of the most awe-inspiring moments in wrestling history, and a large handful of other ludicrous incidents to boot. The match single-handedly saved an otherwise lacklustre pay per view, one which also featured a stinker of a WWF Championship bout between Austin and Kane (a First Blood match, despite the challenger being known for his full body suit and mask). Elsewhere on the card, Ken Shamrock won the King of the Ring tournament, X-Pac got the better of Owen Hart, and an early heel incarnation of Too Cool beat the team of Al Snow and his 'Head' mannequin. All things considered, it's a good job this match featured. Here are twenty truly WTF Moments from a bonafide classic.

20. The Cell's Entrance Music

Almost every WWE superstar has some sort of humble beginning, from Batista's stint as Reverend D-Von's pastor to CM Punk's turn as a WrestleMania extra "hanging off of gangster car". The cell structure itself has also come a long way since this match, especially compared to its grand entrance at 'Mania 28. Here its descent is accompanied by nothing more than a vaguely ominous bassline and some near-silent drums - very much a jobber entrance. Fast-forward to 2012 and the "end of an era" match between Undertaker and Triple H, and the cell is brought down to a flashy lightshow and Metallica's 'The Memory Remains'.

Highly overrated 23 year old from the North East of England. Hanging off of your gangster car.
