22 WTF Moments From This Week In WWE RAW History

Santa abuse, 9/11 exploitation and sex with Mae Young. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Since the past is always destined to repeat itself (especially in WWE), maybe the annals of history can rescue the show from the slump its labouring through? It€™s got to be worth a try, anyway. You can almost set your watch by WWE at this time of year: with a long, slow build to the Royal Rumble we get TLC, the Slammys and the pre-recorded silliness of Tribute To The Troops. And a hastily cobbled-together Best Of Raw show if you€™re in the UK. So maybe this isn€™t the best week for learning any lessons: but at least it represents an opportunity to celebrate the odd festive spirit that overcomes WWE every year. Like children high on too much festive candy, Christmas usually brings out the stupidest in WWE creatives. So maybe expect there to be a lot of Santa getting beaten up mixed in with the usual gross-out sexual banter, vaguely racist commentary and 9/11 exploitation. Behold, the best, worst and weirdest of this week in Raw history€

22. Yokozuna Claus - 13th December 1993

After the December 6th show saw Bobby Heenan€™s ejection from the arena at the hands of Gorilla Monsoon (as the kayfabe cover for Heenan€™s retirement), Jim Cornette turned up as the first guest commentator to join Vince McMahon. That allowed him to astonishingly claim to have had an affair with Princess Diana. Then came a catastrophically stupid promo featuring Yokozuna dressed as Santa Claus being kissed by kids. It eventually faded out to reveal that it was Yokozuna€™s nightmare, yes, but the damage was still done. Luckily for him, Mr. Fuji is there by his bedside to reassure him, suggesting that the pair share a bedroom. Because apparently turning your top heel into a joke as part of the build to his match with the Undertaker at the 1994 Royal Rumble was a good idea.
