Another week and another step closer to SummerSlam and the chance for WWE to really stem the tide of disinterest. Once more, there's more hints of what could be at the showcase event with a Brock Lesnar/Roman Reigns feud likely the most logical for business and ratings (no matter how much of a Braun Strowman fan you might be).

There was also confirmation of Kurt Angle's involvement in WWE 2K18, the teased end of the brand split and a whisper from Dave Meltzer suggesting that the door might be open for a CM Punk return. Calm down though, there's nothing in the pipeline yet. Daniel Bryan, though has been teasing his own in-ring return, which might be a little more firm. When it eventually happens, anyway.

Elsewhere, Jeff Hardy made cartoon dollar signs appear in Vince McMahon's eyes by saying his dream match would be for the Merchandise Champion Of The World with Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks was linked with a push and Cody Rhodes claimed he makes more money in the indies than he did with WWE. Their loss is very much everyone else's gain.

Through it all, the superstars took to Instagram to show off their physiques, to capture animal selfies and to drink in Japan's special brand of culture.

This was the week in WWE Instagram...

25. A WONDERFUL Alliance

This week saw an alliance of incredibly gifted talents, as The Hardy Boyz and Finn Balor teamed up to take on Cesaro, Sheamus and Elias Samson. It might have been temporary, but someone needs to make this a more regular gig.
