So that was the week of No Mercy: an injury-filled, teeth-shattering mix of... well, mild disappointment, really, but it had its moments.
Now attention turns to the future again, and Vince McMahon's need to fix ratings quite desperately, especially with John Cena and Brock Lesnar expected to be out for a while. On top of that he's got the issue of Jeff Hardy's injury making the tag division look even thinner than it already was, and the need to bring in more female talent pretty sharpish (particularly with two more maternity leaves in the impending future).
The answer probably lies in The Shield reunion, more Braun Strowman pushing and some big returns (or as big as WWE can manage, with Hulk Hogan and Kaitlyn mentioned already recently). It definitely doesn't lie in sending cease and desist orders to popular factions from other promotions and drawing lots of unnecessary corporate heat, but that's the nature of the game sometimes.
And through it all, the superstars of past and present took to social media to show off their injuries, their extra-wrestling activities and to pay homage to Hugh Hefner, who died this week after a quiet, tame life of reflection and abstinence.
