3 Ups & 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Aug 29)

5. Kevin Owens Loses The Plot

Regular readers of this column will know of its writer’s disdain for wrestler vs. authority figure feuds, and lack of excitement for the forthcoming Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon match. The duo were, of course, present again on last night’s SmackDown, but while the rivalry is one of the brand’s biggest downs at the moment, KO’s promo was actually pretty solid.

The former ‘Prizefighter’ ran through his issues with McMahon, claiming that the Commissioner was deliberately sabotaging his career, coming off like a deluded lunatic in the process. It was good stuff, but the rest of the feud’s contributions weren’t, hence why it’s under this heading.

Sami Zayn fought Aiden English with Owens on commentary, and KO went nuts. He took the official’s shirt, decided that he was refereeing now, and blasted Sami with a Pop-Up Powerbomb. English covered, Owens counted, and that was that.

Sure, Kevin screwed his greatest rival, but what was the point of this?

There wasn’t one. McMahon immediately took the match off the record books, rendering the whole thing meaningless, and a total waste of time.
