4 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE NXT (July 1)

Next stop: Tokyo.

It is mere days before Finn Balor and Kevin Owens lock up in Tokyo with the NXT Championship on the line. Balor will be looking to avenge his previous loss at the hands of Owens back in February and the champ will be looking to gain a measure of vengeance over his loss last night. The heat is palpable between the two men, encouraged in no small part by a series of stellar Balor-centric docu-shorts, the last of which aired during last night's episode. With the go-home NXT in the bag, it's safe to say that the feud hasn't quite reached the heights of Owens/Zayn, but it was never really given that opportunity. Owens is way too hot a commodity for the company right now, and they're pulling him in a dozen different directions. It was something of a lopsided show. The blockbuster main event felt like the final stop before a big event, yes, but lower down the card it was business as usual. This make sense, Balor and Owens are the only NXT feud being taken to Japan, but it left the rest of the show feeling a little slight. The card, w/finishes, went as follows: The Vaudevillains vs Dawson & Wilder The Vaudevillians got the win after a swinging neckbreaker from Aidan English. Baron Corbin vs Tucker Knight Corbin got the pinfall after hitting End of Days in a quick squash. Emma vs Carmella Carmella tapped out to the Emma Lock - should it be called the Evil Emma Lock now? Tyler Breeze vs Tye Dillinger Breeze pinned Dillinger after a Beauty Shot. Rhyno & Kevin Owens vs Finn Balor and Samoa Joe Balor pinned Owens after a Coup de Grace.
