4 Ups And Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Jan 22)

Daniel Bryan takes on Kane days before the Royal Rumble.

This week's edition of Smackdown was the final WWE television show featuring storyline material heading into Sunday's Royal Rumble PPV. A few weeks ago Daniel Bryan did an interview where he talked about how he wanted to be the face of Smackdown. He's still going to be on Raw all the time, but he made a point in saying that he would like to be a focal point of Smackdown in its new Thursday night timeslot in the US. That's nice to hear considering John Cena is rarely on the show, so they do need some star power. Bryan was in the opening segment this week as well as the main event, so WWE is definitely putting him to work. It was a five match show where three of the matches went longer than ten minutes. That is more than Raw does a lot of the time and that's a three hour show. That's why a case can be made that Smackdown is more of a "wrestling show" although it's rare that they have matches that are that fresh or now. Those three matches are all matchups we've seen a number of times before. Here are the match results from the show. Dolph Ziggler d. Bad News Barrett Ryback d. Rusev by countout Brie Bella d. Naomi Luke Harper d. Erick Rowan No DQ Match: Daniel Bryan d. Kane Here's a look at this week's ups and down for Smackdown.
