5 Reasons Why Australian Pro Wrestling Is Practically Unheard Of

5. Nathan Jones

When Nathan Jones was signed to the WWE, the proverbial doors began to open for the Australian talent to finally, maybe, get that shot at a tryout. And when Nathan Jones decided he couldn't run with the big boys, picked up his ball and went home in the worst way possible, those proverbial doors closed faster than Santino Marella in the 2009 Royal Rumble. Let me tell you a story. Around the time I began my ill fated journey through the world of professional wrestling, Nathan Jones had just signed and had begun working dark matches. Now he wasn't a great wrestler, but he had the look WWE wanted at the time so they seemingly had a lot more patience with his progression then many other more deserving talent who could in fact, wrestle. Then came his time. And there was no doubt the WWE saw this legit 7ft monster as the future. They even gave the guy a Wrestlemania moment, albeit a brief one. But when it is in the match where the Undertaker is defending his streak that is a pretty big moment. Meanwhile, back home, rumours and conjecture began to surface that the WWE was beginning to take interest in what we had to offer. Stories of WWE scouts even making there way down here and holding tryouts made everyone hopeful for the future of professional wrestling down under. Then Nathan Jones decided to go home. Literally. During an Australian WWE live tour, one that even for the first time was showcasing their product in his home state of Western Australia, Nathan Jones decided he'd had enough of the limelight, packed his bag and went home (pretty easy to do since they were touring his home town) without so much of a word or explanation. Just walked out and left. Nathan Jones in that one second of selfishness completely erased the hopes and dreams of ALL who were a part of the Australian wrestling community. The WWE apparently even offered to give him 2 weeks to think his decision over, rumored to be on the advice of Paul Heyman (when have you heard ANYONE else get that kind of treatment?) But no. His 7 foot frame was nothing but a shell for a whiny, self gratifying little child who didn't want to be lugged around by his parents anymore. The aftermath. All reports of any scouts visiting our fair island were immediately squashed and the WWE actually ended up cancelling both Smackdown AND ppv broadcasts in this country (more on that later). Not to mention the dreams of an entire country of PROFESSIONAL wrestlers. And technically you could also throw Matt Morgan in the mix as well. For at the time he walked out the two were obviously being pushed as the indestructible, unstoppable and undefeatable 7ft tag team. What a douchebag *shakes head*

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
