5 Reasons WWE Shouldn't Split The New Day

WWE would be shooting themselves in the foot by ruining one of their best acts.

The New Day are one of the hottest acts in wrestling today. At a time when Raw and Smackdown continue to suffer from repetitive match-ups and a lack of storyline progression, Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods weekly antics have been an island of fun in WWE’s ocean of complacency. They’re bright, exuberant, and consistently entertaining.

They’re also the best thing to happen to WWE’s often-forgotten tag division in the past ten years, and in 12 days they'll surpass Paul London & Brian Kendrick’s 331-day reign to become the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in history.

Sadly, recent interactions with The Wyatt Family suggest that The New Day’s highly-successful run might be about to hit an abrupt halt. Xavier Woods hasn’t been himself. The New Day’s founding member is entranced by and terrified of Bray Wyatt in equal measure, and on this week’s Raw, he made it clear that if Kofi and Big E don’t start taking this threat seriously, The New Day isn’t going to survive.

With the Brand Split nearing and Woods teasing turning on his buddies, most signs point towards an impending New Day split. Here are five reasons why such a decision would be downright booty...

5. The New Tag Division Is Only Just Getting Started

WWE have only started showing real interest in rebuilding their long-suffering tag team division in recent months. New faces like Enzo & Cass, The Club, and The Vaudevillains have come in to bolster the numbers and freshen things up. Add existing teams like The Usos, Dudley Boyz, and Lucha Dragons to the equation and you have a division that could prove to be one of WWE’s biggest assets.

The veteran teams haven’t exactly shone lately and The Vaudevillains appear to be falling off already, but there’s so much potential in this division. With the right leadership, this diverse group of personalities could really take off. All WWE needs to do is give a few more teams the chances they’ve afforded Enzo & Cass, and their tag scene will be flying.

Considering these post-WrestleMania improvements, why would WWE suddenly decide to cannibalise the division by disbanding its strongest unit?

The New Day are one of the most popular acts on the whole roster, let alone in the tag division, and they’re the perfect choice to anchor the growing tag scene. WWE have been crying-out for a group with this level of chemistry and cohesion for the best part of a decade. They don’t need to hold the belts forever, but in a company that’s often treated tag team wrestling as an afterthought, they need to be featured heavily to maintain the division’s relevancy.

The Tag Title scene has cooled off since WrestleMania, but it’d be a shame to squander its limitless potential by splitting one of its must-see acts. You can’t build a division without a cornerstone.
