5 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Sept 12)

2. The Nonsense Continues

Last night’s quality levels were generally high throughout, but SmackDown went off a cliff on two separate occasions. This was the second, as, in a repeat of last week, Dolph Ziggler hit the stage, parodying the ring entrances of wrestlers with way more popularity than him in an attempt to get himself noticed by the WWE Universe.

It was just as cringeworthy as last time.

Instead of John Cena and Naomi, we got Dolph’s renditions of Bayley and the Ultimate Warrior, He then tried to rip on wrestlers who rely on fancy entrances to get over, stating that anyone can perform them, but nobody can do what he does in the ring (he’s right: amassing such an impressive collection of losses can’t be easy).

This is presumably leading to the rumoured feud with Bobby Roode, given that the former NXT Champion wouldn’t be half as popular without his bombastic theme song, but is ‘The Show-Off’ really the best option to put the new SD star over? His dalliances with Shinsuke Nakamura suggest that he isn’t, and this angle has already come off the rails.
