5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE SmackDown (Jan 28)

The Big Show is babyface again!?

In the lead-up to Smackdown's move to the USA Network, World Wrestling Entertainment hyped on their official website that the switch in channel would be huge for the weekly program. Whilst it's true that there does seem to be a little more emphasis on storyline development with the show, it's still not quite on par with Monday Night Raw in the eyes of many fans. Putting things another way, WWE haven't yet been able to make Smackdown feel like essential programming. This is a problem that's plagued the show for years, and simply must be rectified. One solution would be dropping Raw from 3 hours to 2, so that some of the content featured there can be saved for Smackdown. The company are loathe to do that however, due to the added TV revenue they glean from that third hour. On this week's show, the hangover from what happened on Raw was felt. In total, there were 5 matches, including a bumper 6-man tag-team main event pitting Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho against members of The Wyatt Family. In addition to that, the program opened with an 8-man tag bout, and also featured AJ Styles in singles action. Highlighted here are the main 'ups' and 'downs' from this week's episode of Smackdown, outlining the main positives and negatives from the latest installment of Smackdown goodness.
