WWE dearly love opening broadcasts with lengthy promo segments. Many have commented that the company really need to shake things up, because the format of shows is stale and uninspiring. Whilst it's hard to argue with that most of the time, the opening of this week's episode of Smackdown didn't come across as meaningless. It's hard to pin point exactly why not, because this was simply another promo involving the heavy hitters in the WWE World Heavyweight Title scene. Thankfully, the men doing the talking were giving good material to work with, which isn't always the case. Following an anemic Monday Night Raw, Smackdown had to be a good show. It's pleasing that - overall - the Thursday night program was superior to its Monday night counterpart this week.
