5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (March 16th)

Maybe Paul Heyman should put over every competitor.

The picture for WrestleMania came a little more into focus Monday night, but it unfortunately still looks more like a cobbled-together collage than a work of art. Raw centered on adding a major one-on-one match that could be a show-stealer, but as with much of everything that has been rolled out this WrestleMania season, the execution left a lot to be desired. It really is disappointing at times to see good ideas and premises develop, only to watch WWE shoot itself in the foot. Paul Heyman can€™t run out there every segment and put over every competitor, though that would be the surefire way to ensure a strong build across the board. There just isn€™t the firepower there, save for a few exceptions, to drive a competitive narrative. Monday Night Raw saw Randy Orton and Seth Rollins spend much of the show talking and playing a transparent game of misdirection. Bad News Barrett finally left Raw with his Intercontinental Championship, which sounds like a weird accomplishment until you realize he hasn€™t had it in his possession for a month. The secondary titles purportedly got a lot of attention, yet they feel more like props than they mean something. So let€™s find out what worked and what flopped on Raw Monday night.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
