5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (June 11)
6. Yay! A Loser Angle
Nothing wins over fans more than a loser angle. It’s scientifically proven.
OK, that’s a blatant lie, but it’s one WWE clearly believes. The company has booked Curt Hawkins to lose 200 straight matches since returning, creating a lovable loser of sorts. However, Hawkins also is ostensibly a heel, so he’s not really that lovable.
Monday, he didn’t come out for his match against No Way Jose, leading the referee to start the match and administer the count. At that point, one of the conga line members jumped into the ring and rolled up Jose – for a two count. Hawkins was quickly exposed and defeated, boosting the losing streak to 201 consecutive losses.
So this is our future on Raw: Hawkins tries to win a match by any means necessary. This on top of the B-Team overcoming a long losing streak to earn a tag title shot. It’s doubtful Hawkins parlays this into an Intercontinental Championship match, though.
Generally, losing streaks are horrible gimmicks, and while this might have some entertaining moments here and there, it isn’t going to do anyone any favors in the long run. It’ll just fill time on Raw.
