5 Ways WWE Will Be Great Again In 2013

cmpunk The current era of the WWE has been coined by many as the PG era and just as many have focused on in the past, is by far not as entertaining as that as the era beforehand; the time of Attitude. Others have also commented that the past several years have acted as a transitional period akin to the time between the golden age of wrestling and the rise of Hulkamania! A comparison that shares no basis seeing as a transitional period is not a genuine model in pro wrestling but looking back, you can€™t help but feel that the WWE is pulling itself out of a gloomy place. All the evidence I needed was provided by a recent DVD purchase of mine. Whilst innocently browsing the internet for wrestling DVD€™s, I came across the best of RAW and Smackdown 2012 (which was actually 2011, go figure). This being the time in which my wife got back into wrestling and coupled with it going cheap, I decided to purchase purely for nostalgic reasons. Whilst watching the DVD it became apparent that over 2010 / 2011, the product was likely at its all-time worst. Now this could be down to the production of the DVD itself but the only real highlights were The Rock being announced as WrestleMania 27 host and being more €œRock€ like than his recent run as Champion, CM Punks Pipe bomb for obvious reasons and the RAW that started with a lone Triple H, soon joined by the top faces after a walk out by the rest of the roster (Punk on commentary is still gold). Apart from these gems, there was really nothing else to write home about. At this time there were quite a few issues that really helped the product bomb! The over-abundance of mediocre at best talent in the main events was the main issue I had watching this back. Guys like Miz, John Morrison, Jack Swagger and R Truth were prime examples of talent being pushed when they were a million miles from being either ready or fitting. You may like the work of any of these names but they would be hitting their glass ceiling if they were to hold the Intercontinental Championship. The biggest problem much of the roster had at this time is that they were WWE products who had come through the development system and had no experience bar FCW and then the main roster. They were green and it showed. But there€™s no excuse for the veterans during this period. I hold my hand up as not being a Christian fan but his presence during this period was a bore, much like most of his career. He will no doubt be a great guy to have in the locker room as he is the epitome of a WWE worker. It€™s just a shame for him and the audience that he has as much charisma as was in Edge€™s pinky finger. During 2011 he was feuding constantly with the World Heavyweight champion and I wouldn€™t be surprised that this was the determining factor to the downfall of Smackdown. In summary, 2010 and 2011 suffered from actual veterans phoning in their performance, compounded by the amount of green, WWE created €œSuperstars€ who had so little experience working that it showed on TV. The only reason I can come up with for both problems is that the PG era had only just begun and no one really knew what they could or couldn€™t get away with. That as well as Vince McMahon trying to forge his own superstars without them gaining experience away from the WWE. But we are most definitely emerging from this dark time and it looks as though the future of WWE is an exciting one! Here, I hope to highlight 5 reasons why the WWE over the next year will once again deserve the title of king of sports entertainment and usher in the new era of must watch TV:
