5 WCW Superstars Who Made It In The WWE

WCW logo The WCW was a promotion full of misused talent, the older stars kept the younger stars from blossoming into their full potential, However, there are many examples of WCW talent being misused in WWE, such as Dean Malenko, Ultimo Dragon, Scott Steiner and Perry Saturn, who were all misused in Vince McMahon's company. Yet despite this, there are a few examples of WCW talent reaching high levels of success in the WWE. So without further ado, I ask you to cast your eye over these WCW success stories.

5. Rey Mysterio

rey-mysterio Rey Mysterio made his name in Mexico fighting the likes of Juventud Guerrera and Psicosis in fresh and innovative matches, emerging as the main draw of an influx of Mexican superstars coming over to the States to make a name and some money for themselves. He firstly appeared in ECW first before making his debut in the WCW, taking the tag team championship with the technically sound Dean Malenko. He would also feud with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Billy Kidman and Juventud Guerrera in matches that Mysterio has not managed to surpass since in my opinion. Mysterio showed his loyalty to the company that made him a star as he stayed with WCW right until the last episode of Nitro in 2001. After making a name for himself in WCW as one of the most exciting high flyers in wrestling there was much anticipation when WWE announced his return to American television in 2002. Mysterio was never going to be anything else but a fan favorite - with a flashy style and limited mic skills, his wrestling ability would do the talking and he became a wrestler with a 'big heart' much like Sin Cara is becoming in the WWE these days. Mysterio began winning gold early on in his career with multiple tag team titles and added the now-defunct Cruiserweight championship to his name on several occasions having memorable feuds with version one Matt Hardy in the process. Rey would also have notable feuds against Eddie Guerrero featuring his son Dominic, this was featured on WWE's 25 Greatest Rivalries DVD which shows how highly thought of the feud was, Mysterio also had a very memorable spat with the Big Show during this time which elevated Mysterio once again. After Eddie Guerrero's death a storyline ensued where it became Mysterio's destiny to win the World Heavyweight Title which he did so at Wrestlemania 22. Mysterio was dubbed the 'underdog champion' and his reign proved both sickly and fresh, as a man so small had not won the World Heavyweight Championship before. Mysterio has also won the Intercontinental Championship twice and won the World Heavyweight Championship twice more. Mysterio has found more success, fame and money in the WWE than he ever did in the WCW. Despite this we have seen a depletion in Mysterio's ring skills in recent years and his matches have suffered as a consequence. Mysterio also breached the terms of the wellness policy and has suffered with injuries the last couple of years, We await his return in the WWE this year.
