6 Devastating WWE Defeats John Cena Suffered At SummerSlam

He has more losses than any wrestler in SummerSlam history. Here's a look at how it happened.

John Cena is the biggest loser in the history of SummerSlam. Weird, right? It's true. It's damn true. Cena's career record at SummerSlam is 4-6 as he heads into the main event of this year's show in a match against "The Beast Incarnate" Brock Lesnar. Those six losses are also the most of any WrestleMania in the history of SummerSlam. The Undertaker is in second with five losses. What does it tell us when Cena and Undertaker, two of the most popular wrestlers ever, have losing records at SummerSlam? For one thing it says wins and losses don't always matter because both of them have had stellar careers. The other thing it tells us is that WWE often uses SummerSlam as a show to put over heel performers. WrestleMania is more about putting over the babyfaces in the big matches. Four months later that changes. It's all about telling stories and history has shown that Vince McMahon has used the summer spectacular to make the bad guys look strong. Cena has also wrestled in ten consecutive SummerSlam events from 2004 to 2013, which is very impressive. He's had a few injuries in his career, but none of them have caused him to miss SummerSlam. Another noteworthy fact is that seven of his ten SummerSlam matches have been for the WWE Title, so again that shows just how important Cena has been to WWE in the last decade and how he's been in the WWE Title picture for so long. This look at Cena's SummerSlam history will be listed in chronological order so we'll start with the first loss and then work through all of them until we get to his loss last year. Before that, though, a quick look at his four wins at SummerSlam.
