6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jun 12)

Downs...

3. King Nothing

AJ Styles Jerry Lawler

This was unnecessary.

Jerry 'The King' Lawler was wheeled out halfway through the broadcast. He promptly introduced his guest, AJ Styles, before conducting what will likely go down as 'The Phenomenal One's' most listless interview this year. The WWE Champion's words amounted to nothing more than "I'm gonna win at Money In The Bank," peppered with a handful of catchphrases, and none of it came with any real panache.

The segment only existed to pop Lawler's hometown crowd, as it did nothing to generate excitement for the upcoming WWE Championship match. It wasn't excessively bad, but it was disposable. Two minutes of airtime for a polite round of applause and a promo that would've been a better fit as a YouTube fallout clip. A perfect toilet break opportunity for those who couldn't care less about 'King,' and sensed Styles wasn't going to say anything of note.
