6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Oct 9)

1. Nothing Left For Rusev & English

This column has called for a swerve ending to the Milwaukee saga on several occasions over the past few weeks, with WWE veering away from a predictable adultery storyline. The company did that last night, but in a way that buried any remaining interest in seeing this tale continuing, presenting the antagonist as the biggest loser in the building in the process.

After last week's tease, Aiden English cut off the footage of his hotel room meeting with Lana before it got interesting, then offered to destroy the tape if Rusev booted his wife to reform their tag team. Out came 'The Bulgarian Brute' and his partner, who announced they'd hacked into their foe's computer. They played the rest of the tape, and it was revealed that while Aiden tried to make a move, he was turned down, and this led into a segment-closing brawl.

So WWE have already had the victims outwit the aggressor. We should be thankful that we don't have to sit through a daft love triangle angle, but where do they go from here? Where's the intrigue? Why would anyone care about this continuing now that the heel has already been outfoxed?

Perhaps this may have gone over stronger had English revealed the whole thing as a ploy to pull Rusev and Lana apart (or just straight-up get under their skin), but WWE have already dropped the hammer.
