If you’re unsure of whether WWE Raw on Monday night was good, bad or just blah, you’re not alone. Raw managed to put on a few good matches and yet be somewhat forgettable at times.

Holiday episodes of Raw sometimes end up like that, with WWE acknowledging that a portion of their audience won’t tune in, so they dial back on storyline progression in favor of a few filler matches. This sometimes leads to dull episodes that are skippable.

That wasn’t the case Monday night, as Raw did deliver a solid opening match, a good Intercontinental Championship bout, and an impressive main event with a cool visual to end the program. Those three positives alone are enough to give Raw passing grades.

But beyond that, Raw sputtered along with a couple tag matches, a women’s tag match, a multi-man cruiserweight tag match and some pedestrian backstage segments. When you’re talking about a three-hour episode, that’s the difference between passable and really enjoyable.

Still, Raw continued to steer nicely toward No Mercy at the end of the month, with several matches already set, including two mammoth bouts pitting Brock Lesnar against Braun Strowman, and Roman Reigns against John Cena. Those two matches alone should make the PPV worthwhile.

With that said, let’s find out what scaled the cage and what got thrown into the unforgiving steel. Let’s get to it…

Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
