6 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE No Mercy 2017

WWE promised WrestleMania-worthy bouts. Did it deliver as promised or fall short?

Going into Sunday’s WWE PPV, you had to believe that if the two major matches delivered and at least one bout on the undercard was above-average, No Mercy could be the best “B-show” of the year.

And while we certainly got an outstanding match in the Raw Tag Team Championship contest, the two main events, while technically fine, left something to be desired. You would think that the two first-ever matches would be epic confrontations, and instead they fell a little short. The matches themselves were good, but they certainly weren’t WrestleMania main event worthy.

Overall, the PPV was decent enough, if only somewhat a letdown from lofty expectations going in. The tag title match exceeded projections, while others were solid. All five women in the Raw Women’s Championship worked hard in a compressed bout, conveying the total dominance of Nia Jax without her losing the match.

But really, should we be faulting WWE for promising two WrestleMania main-event-caliber bouts, and then delivering two matches we’ve basically seen before? If either of those bouts closed Mania, fans would be understandably frustrated. Even so, if you wanted to watch the PPV after the fact, it’s worth it for the spectacle, just remember to fast-forward the cruiserweight match.

With that said, what powerslammed the competition, and what got speared out of their boots? Let’s get to it…
