6 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Battleground 2016

A fantastic Owens/Zayn match, but the draft wreaks havoc on PPV.

It was the end of an era, it was the beginning of an era.

That’s how Battleground will be remembered, if it’s remembered at all. The PPV was easily one of WWE’s least significant events in recent memory, with no titles changing hands and several feuds coming to an abrupt halt because of last week’s draft. For example, both secondary titleholders can’t face their Battleground opponents in a rematch, and even WWE Champion Dean Ambrose can’t face his former Shield brethren again, with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins on Raw while he’s on SmackDown.

As a result, Battleground didn’t feel ground-breaking in any way, just an event that was on the calendar and went forward despite the draft jumbling WWE’s roster. If you missed the PPV, it’s not a total skip, however. You absolutely have to see the Sami Zayn/Kevin Owens grudge match, an instant classic that had fans coming out of their seats to cheer throughout the bout. Hopefully, WWE will get these two into a ring against each other again soon, despite the match being billed as the final confrontation.

The big news coming out of Battleground was that Dean Ambrose held onto his WWE Championship, which means that Raw does not have a world champion. So it’ll be interesting to see how Stephanie McMahon responds to that.

So what dominated and what got destroyed? Let’s get to it…
