6 Ups And Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Jan 12th)

WWE shook off the worst Raw in recent memory to offer something that at least shows glimpses of what could be.

After last week€™s abysmal Monday Night Raw, the bar for improvement was set so low that as long as this week€™s episode didn€™t dig seven feet under, it should be able to clear the bar. So, could WWE€™s Superstar of the Year for 2013, one of the biggest stars of the 80s and 90s and a solid ending lift Monday Night Raw to a passing grade? Ooooooh yeah! To be honest, maybe not a B+, but a C- is still technically passing, right? (And besides, it really was an excuse to snap into a Macho Man impersonation.) Still, Monday Night Raw did offer some genuinely worthwhile moments, attempting to reignite the spark with WWE€™s biggest star from a year ago, finally recognizing one of the greatest stars in professional wrestling history, and closing out the program with a strong ending that was bigger on action than on words. That€™s not to say that Raw was without its groan-inducing moments. There still are too many head-scratchers where it€™s plainly obvious that the writers just don€™t get it. Raw still is bad enough that fans would think twice before suggesting that a non-fan sit down and watch it with them. Nonetheless, WWE shook off the worst Raw in recent memory to offer something Monday night that at least shows glimpses of what could be. Just don€™t hold your breath.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
