6 WWE Returns That Could Still Be Good Business

Now that Goldberg has returned to the fray, who else could be lined up for a comeback?

Who of note has not yet made a return to the WWE?

That must be a question asked fairly frequently at the company's Stamford headquarters, given their tendency in the last few years to bring back performers of yesteryear to mix it up with their current roster. Many are critical of such 'part-timers', arguing that they take the spotlight away from up and coming wrestlers, whilst others point out the necessity of bringing back proven draws given the company's inability to create new stars and attract more fans to the product, regardless of how deep and talented the current roster may be.

In the last five years alone we've seen the high profile returns of The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Batista, and most recently Goldberg, supplemented by the reappearances of secondary stars such as Rob Van Dam and the Dudley Boyz. Who could be next in line? Over the course of the next few pages, several distinct possibilities are examined, each of which could prove to be great business decisions for the WWE in their own way.

6. Drew Galloway

There are a number of ex-WWE 'midcarders' successfully plying their trade on the independent wrestling scene and there are always calls for the company to take a second look at the likes of Carlito and John Morrison. Few have had as much of an impact on the circuit as Drew Galloway, however, as the former Drew McIntyre has been ever-present in the likes of TNA, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) and Evolve (with whom WWE now have a working relationship) since his 2014 release.

As Drew McIntyre, Galloway seemed destined for great things in the WWE given that he debuted as Vince McMahon's 'chosen one', winning the Intercontinental title within a matter of months and being labelled as a 'future world Champion' by the Chairman himself. A switch from Smackdown to Raw killed his momentum, however, and he spent his last few years in the company as a jobber, most notably in the 3MB faction with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal.

Galloway is still just 31 and has many years left in which to thrive. Bringing him back could be a gamble for the WWE, as many might struggle to take him seriously as a championship contender given his history with the company. It could certainly pay off, however, if his past was disregarded (perhaps by letting him use his real name now that performers are seemingly no longer obligated to drop their independent names for WWE-trademarked ones) and the Scotsman's in-ring talents were allowed to do the talking instead.
