7 CM Punk WWE Matches You Will Never Get To See

Punk is adamant he is gone for good, and so are a whole load of potential classics.

Many remember CM Punk for his verbal skills, his ability to take words uttered into a microphone and create moments in time. Through all of this it can be forgotten that he was one of the best wrestlers in the company, period. He could wrestle a variety of styles against a variety of opponents, bringing good matches out of below average workers (Hey Ryback!) and putting on clinics with the best of the best (Hey Daniel Bryan!). Now that he has gone from the company, enough time has passed to lament matches we'll never get to see on the biggest stage in the industry. In the (almost) two years that have passed since his acrimonious departure, NXT has taken on a life of its own, embracing the best of the best from the independent wrestling scene that spawned Punk in the first place. In fact, it is interesting to view Punk in relation to NXT. Would his career have gone as it did if NXT was a factor when he made it to the WWE, or if the attitude towards the indies then was as it is now? I wager not, but that is another story for another day. A new crop of superstars are rocketing towards the sun, a sun that no longer holds a certain heavily-tattoed Straight Edge Superstar. Here are seven CM Punk WWE matches that we'll only get to see in our imaginations, or maybe even on that computer game that everyone is excited about now.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
