7 Future Main Event Wrestlers In WWE

It's not a matter of if, but when they'll get their big push in the WWE.

Nothing lasts forever in wrestling. Top-draw guys like John Cena or Brock Lesnar can consistently deliver box-office main events at PPVs for a while, but their time to step aside will inevitably come. And when it does, who will be the next Cena or Lesnar to lead the charge, and will they be strong enough to put the weight of the company on their shoulders?

Fortunately for the WWE, they're currently knee-deep in new and exciting wrestlers who could one day fill such big (and intimidating) boots. With a steady production line of talent coming into NXT, there is a wealth of riches to pick from. We've already seen the likes of Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Samoa Joe main event PPVs following their ascensions to the main roster, and the next generation of superstars will surely follow.

And whilst there are no certainties of attaining such a headline status in pro-wrestling (just ask 3MB-era Drew McIntyre), with the right tools and work ethic, climbing to the top of the mountain is always a real possibility.

Not all of them can make it, but for these select few the opportunity to play out their childhood dreams in the main event is tantalizingly close.

7. Adam Cole

In the last decade, Ring of Honor has risen to become the number one indie promotion in the United States. Since the demise of WCW, and the relative failure of TNA, the homeland dominance of the WWE has been challenged by the exciting wrestlers appearing in RoH. And this meant of course, that Vince would poach them all for himself. Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins have all made the switch, becoming main event superstars in the process. And now, Adam Cole will surely follow suit.

His explosive debut at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III - where he and fellow RoH alumni, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish, decimated new champion Drew McIntyre - was clear evidence that the WWE has big plans for Cole. A title reign in NXT seems almost a certainty, and a call-up to Raw and SmackDown would then just become a formality.

From that point, anything is possible for Adam Cole. If they use him alongside O'Reilly and Fish to form a new heel stable that runs roughshod over the WWE, be prepared for him to sit on top of the ladder for many years to come, bay-bay!
