7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2006

2. John Cena Won Back The WWE Title From Edge

There have been so many John Cena vs. Edge matches that it's hard to remember all of them. This one took place at the start of their rivalry. A few weeks earlier, Edge cashed in the first Money in the Bank briefcase at the New Year's Revolution PPV to become the WWE Champion for the first time. This was Cena's chance to win the title back. They had a solid 14 minute match that was back and forth. You could tell that they still weren't used to each other yet. Their later matches were much better with more counters of their regular moves and a lot better in terms of nearfalls. It was still a solid match. Even though Edge was the WWE Champion, he really wasn't booked that strong and at the time few people thought he was going to win. He didn't even cheat that much. Lita tried to interfere on his behalf, but that didn't work too well. Cena finished off Edge with the FU (later named the Attitude Adjustment) and the STFU (later just known as the STF) submission led to the clean submission win. If you want to see the best Cena/Edge match, check out their TLC match at the Unforgiven 2006 PPV. This one is still okay to watch if you want to see the early stages of the rivalry.
