7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Aug 28)
Becky blindsides Charlotte AGAIN: this time, it works...
Though the angle remains imperfect, Becky Lynch versus Charlotte Flair is the big storyline on SmackDown at the moment.
The duo were the talking of last week's show, with 'The Lass Kicker' transforming herself from plucky, loveable underdog to an embittered, angry, over-looked force of nature, despite WWE's inherently flawed writing. Last night, the company went one better. Charlotte wrestled Carmella in the main event, but it was Becky standing tall as SmackDown went off the air, having signed off on another beatdown of her former best friend with "you BITCH!" - the year's most memorable mic drop.
Much of the post-show discussion will revolve around them, but the blue brand made plenty of time for their tag division too, as The New Day celebrated their fifth title victory with a certain King, and the latest contendership series began with a big Triple Threat. Elsewhere, Samoa Joe took his personal war on AJ Styles to the next level, The IIconics' winning run continued, Jeff Hardy laid down a huge Hell In A Cell challenge, and Daniel Bryan tussled with Andrade 'Cien' Almas.
In terms of quality, this was very much a textbook SmackDown episode, blighted only by a couple of flaws: one major, one minor...
