7 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Aug 7)

Downs...

3. Disjointed Tag Action

There's merit to the argument that Billie Kay and Peyton Royce could be doing more on SmackDown, but they're an effective jobber tandem. Their characters are the right kind of annoying, they have their act down to a tee, and neither is a standout wrestler. This is a fine role for them at the moment.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch overcame the IIconics in six minutes last night. It was the right outcome, as the duo needed a show of stability to keep their tension simmering without boiling over, but it wasn't a smooth watch.

The action was slow and disjointed at points, particularly during The IIconics' control periods, and at no point did it feel like Royce and Kay had a chance of winning. This made it tough to buy into what they were doing, particularly as the layout was designed to show they had a chance.

Without any noticeable botches or miscommunications, it'd be a stretch to call this awful, but its issues mean it sits among SmackDown's lower rungs.
