There was a nice symmetry by having Paige announce her retirement from wrestling Monday night in New Orleans, which is where she debuted on the main roster four years ago, beating AJ Lee for the Divas Championship.

Paige’s career was one that was full of potential and hope – she was a 21-year-old who burst onto the scene, a wrestling lifer who could have anchored the division for a decade-plus. But injuries and questionable decisions plagued her, and just when it looked like she was getting back on track, a freak accident ended her in-ring career.

One thing worth noting is that Paige called out Daniel Bryan, who returned from a career-ending injury the night before, as giving her hope. So it’s clear that even though she announced her retirement, there’s a good chance Paige is going to be looking for a chance to return at some point.
