WWE is based in the United States and they hold 99% of their shows in the U.S. They run shows for the troops and participate in multiple military charity events every year. WWE is American through and through. Because WWE is American, they often use foreign characters that rely on their nationality to get heat as a heel. It's been a tried and true formula for decades. One of the best examples of a wrestler using nationality as a heat magnet is The Iron Sheik. During a time when U.S. and Soviet Union relations were not so good, WWE pushed the envelope by making the character bring out their flag. Sometimes a perceived rivalry between The United States and Canada is used to get a Canadian heel over. It doesn't matter if it's an enemy or a neighboring country, if there is heat WWE can get out of using them, they will. This slideshow will look at seven of the more well-known foreign heels and how they used their country as a way to become bigger heels.
