8 Famous Wrestlers Whose Last Matches Were A Total Disaster

Well that's...one way to go out.

When wrestlers finally hang up their boots, all they can really hope for is that their last match is a solid one, so they can leave on a good note. They want fans to have a lasting image of them performing at a high level. But that's not always possible.

Not everyone gets to go out on a high like Shawn Michaels or Edge. A lot of wrestlers simply overstay their welcome. Guys like The Undertaker and Ric Flair could have had amazing final matches, but instead they hung around past their expiration date and went out on pretty meager notes.

But compared to the guys on this list, Taker and Flair's finales were 5-star matches. These wrestlers didn't just peter out, they went down in a blaze of...well, whatever the opposite of glory is. Their curtain calls were full-blown catastrophes.

Now, for the sake of fairness, we're going to limit this list to televised events from legitimate (or at least semi-legitimate) promotions. Otherwise it wouldn't be fair to the wrestlers who are forced to perform at small halls across the country just to earn a living.

Also, out of respect, you're not going to find Darren Drozdov, Owen Hart, Perro Aguayo, or anyone else who died or was crippled in the ring on this list.

8. Pat Patterson

Hardcore Evening Gown Match vs. Gerald Brisco

WWE's short-lived Hardcore division may have created some memorable moments, but it was also responsible for some of the lowest points of the Attitude Era. Including this abomination.

For those who only remember Pat Patterson as one of Vince McMahon's on-air "stooges", here's a quick history lesson: Patterson was one of three people to win WWE's short-lived North American Championship, was the first ever Intercontinental Champion, had Wrestling Observer's Match of the Year in 1981, and later, as part of the creative team, became one of the only guys backstage capable of talking some sense into Vince.

That's a solid list of accolades, which makes it all the more painful to realize that the last time he ever wrestled, he did so as the butt of a joke.

Patterson -- and his co-stooge Gerald Brisco -- fought for the Hardcore Championship dressed in some of the most horrendous drag you'll ever see. It was treated as a lark, and played out terribly.

The sour cherry on top? Patterson is gay, and has spoken in recent years about his trials and tribulations being a gay man in a business that tends to frown on that sort of thing. He deserved a better, more tactful send-off from the ring.
