8 Greatest Transitional WWE Champions Of All Time

6. Edge

Poor Edge. Even though he's widely regarded as one of WWE's top talents of the last decade, The Rated R Superstar was never really given the opportunity to flourish as the face of the company.

He's had four WWE Championship reigns, and a record-setting seven as World Heavyweight Champion, but only one of all those lasted more than three months. Sure, his more significant reigns were cut short because of injury, but it still kinda seems like Vince McMahon was never willing to put all of his eggs in the Edge basket.

In fact, from 2006 to 2009, Edge's sole job in the company seemed to be as intermediary for one title or another, usually for his old tag team nemesis. Need to move the WWE Championship from Triple H to Jeff Hardy? Send in Edge. Need to move it back to Triple H? Send in Edge again! But we should probably get Jeff involved in a feud with CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship, right? Cool, let's take the title off John Cena. You...you're already calling Edge, right?

While it can be argued that at least some of Edge's time spent as champ was meant to be more than a transitional period, the stats are overwhelmingly stacked in the other direction.
