Baron Corbin is kind of sort of the best thing to happen to the SmackDown Live! midcard in ages, and Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode inadvertently represent exactly the reason why.

Of the three men in this torturously tepid triple threat, Corbin is the least enjoyable to watch in the ring, and subsequently the least popular. But as an antagonistic a*shole, that's actually not such a bad thing.

The internet's ex-boyfriend Dolph Ziggler probably just wishes for fans to care one way or another rather than being stuck with the last hangers-on from 2013 and the disinterested silence of supporters long checked out of his act. Meanwhile, Bobby Roode has the opposite issue - his smooth and slick in-ring style is a callback to simpler times, completely at odds with his contemporary and crowd-pleasing entrance. Audiences love nothing more than shouting the lyrics to 'Glorious' at the top of their lungs, but similar decibels are in short supply when he enters minute eight of a particularly well-applied headlock.

Individual singles matches between the trio have been largely listless, but will piling them all in really magic up some chemistry? That's hard to predict, but the result is not. Corbin, the only performer really worthy of the position currently will retain, if only because his aura remains so fragile in the wake of the John Cena programme earlier this year. 'The Lone Wolf' has some miles to travel with the secondary strap before he'll be permitted anywhere near the company's top prize.
