8 Things Lucha Underground Did Better Than WWE

8. Booking Babyfaces

This isn’t to say that Lucha Underground was perfect when it came to its portrayal of heels and babyfaces. After all, the most popular character from the entire show was a skeleton ninja who spent the first season breaking arms for fun, and also beat the ever-loving tar out of women throughout the series. There were missteps, without doubt.

But when compared to modern day WWE, Lucha Underground was light years ahead when it came to booking babyface characters. Modern day WWE has a huge dearth of major good guys, as the ‘shades of grey’ mentality has overtaken the desire for a huge superstar babyface. The biggest promotion on the planet also sabotages its own babyfaces for fear of someone outgrowing the company.

In an underground fighting league that was inherently bad, a number of pure individuals managed to get over despite performing in front of a ‘bad is cool’ sort of crowd. The Mack, Son of Havoc, and Sexy Star all experienced success whilst fighting the good fight on the show. Lucha Underground consistently showed that it was able to make pure babyface stars.
