The run has to come to an end at some point, right? NXT TakeOver: WarGames continued the trend of excellent special events from the developmental brand, although it doesn’t seem fair to refer to NXT as a ‘developmental brand’ anymore. The talent and storytelling on show last night was far from second league.

New champions were crowned, old favourites were brought back and spruced up for the modern age, and Lars Sullivan continued to look weird and decimate folk. The WWE Universe had high expectations for NXT TakeOver: WarGames, and the show over-delivered yet again.

It wasn’t a perfect night, but NXT made plenty of right moves in Houston’s Toyota Center. Everything is now set up for the next few months of TV, and the brand simultaneously looks fresh and solid going towards the end of 2017. Let’s focus on what NXT got very right last night in Texas.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
