8 Times Major WWE Champions Were Forced To Vacate Titles

7. Edge Vacates World Heavyweight Championship Due To Injury - July 2007

Arguably one of the most influential and entertaining stars of the entire Attitude Era, Edge's singles career was dominated by two main issues. One of those was the amount of gold he won - which turned out to be a great deal. He won several accolades after his eventual split from Christian towards the end of the Attitude Era, and is one of the most decorated stars of the modern era. Unfortunately, the other big issue that dominated Edge's career was injury - and it was the reason he was forced into early retirement. Before that, however, Edge was actually forced to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship in the middle of 2007. He had suffered a legitimate pectoral injury, and couldn't compete as champion. The injury was incorporated into a storyline where a tournament was created to determine the new champion. It seems bizarre looking back, but the man who emerged to win that tournament was The Great Khali, who became World Heavyweight Champion for the first time.
