8 Times Major WWE Champions Were Forced To Vacate Titles

4. Vince McMahon Vacates The WWE Championship Because He's Not Vince Russo - September 1999

Vince McMahon created history on an edition of SmackDown, as he picked up his first ever major championship with the WWE by winning the WWE Championship. It was all due to an impromptu match between McMahon and Triple H - who himself had only just won the championship a few weeks previous. The contest was being officiated by Shane McMahon, in a huge attempt to enable Vince to win some gold at long last. Triple H was looking like getting the win until a shocking interference from "Stone Cold" Steve Austin enabled McMahon to pick up a bizarre and historic win. However, he wouldn't be champion for long, as he peculiarly vacated the championship just a week later on Raw. A "Six Pack Challenge" match was created at Unforgiven to determine the next winner of the WWE Championship, and Triple H gained retribution for the loss against McMahon by emerging as the victor.
