8 Wrestlers Who Quit After Major PPVs
7. Mick Foley (Survivor Series '97)
Although Rick Rude made good on his post-Perfidy protest, a number of his WWE colleagues ultimately stayed put - but not for lack of trying.
One such man was Mick Foley. Like Rude, Foley was a personal friend of Bret Hart; the two had oddly bonded over a mutual interest in the American Civil War, not to mention their inherent respect for one another as workers in spite of their vastly differing styles. Foley was so upset at the way his pal had been betrayed at Survivor Series, that he sat the next night's Raw out - fully intending to quit the company.
Ultimately, he was talked out of following Rude to WCW - by Hart himself. Though 'The Hitman' was bubbling with animosity towards Vince McMahon, he wasn't prepared to let his resentment sabotage his allies, and told Foley that returning to Atlanta would be career suicide. Added to that, Mick's wife wisely pointed out that the terms of his contract would restrict his movement should he go through with his walkout, and so he returned to the company with his head held high.
"I was embraced, and it was never held against me," recalled Foley. "As a matter of fact, I think McMahon respected it."
