8 WWE Dream Matches That Happened Way Too Late

Settling the score for Montreal...a decade after most people stopped caring.

What would wrestling be without its dream matches? The entire business is predicated on money matches, those special attraction meetings between the really big stars. These are the matches that really draw people in and make them part with their hard-earned cash. Typically, they are reserved for a big show like a SummerSlam or a WrestleMania. Wrestling fans yearn for these matches, clearly, because they know it's more than likely going to be a special occasion. Even non-fans or casuals may be convinced to order a PPV (or sign up for a free month of the WWE Network) in order to see it. Guys like Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar are all big enough names to warrant this kind of investment from people who wouldn't be caught dead watching Smackdown. Yes, dream matches are a big deal. Unfortunately, they sometimes come far, far too late. When big time superstars are involved, there are a lot of factors that need to be approached with sensitivity. Who's going over? How's the storyline going to go? Will there be a rematch? These are questions that people protective of their aura are rightly asking the match-makers. As a result of this and other circumstances, dream matches can sometimes take longer than hoped to eventually make it to the squared circle. These next eight matches regrettably happened years after they ideally would have.
