8 WWE Stars Who Will Never Be World Champion

There's still hope for Cesaro, right?

Jinder Mahal's surprise win over Randy Orton two months ago has given every male performer on the roster cause to believe that they too can one day hold the world title.

And some of them are probably right. In eras past, the main event was the exclusive domain of a select group of elite wrestlers, with those beneath them largely left to a career in the mid-card. These days, however, momentum - and the support of the fans - can carry you a long way.

Mahal is evidence that you can resurrect your career, no matter how far down the food chain you've fallen - but his was also a classic case of right place in the right time. Others may not be so fortunate, and there are - in any era - always a group of deserving wrestlers who never quite manage to seize the brass ring.

That can be a little heart-breaking sometimes, but it's really not the end of the world. You can have a successful career without capturing the industry's biggest prize - and it's great moments, not necessarily wins, that create the best wrestling memories.

8. Luke Harper

If Luke Harper was ever going to get his hands on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, it was going to be this year.

After splitting with Bray Wyatt following tension over Randy Orton's infiltration, the path looked clear for a three-way title tilt heading into WrestleMania 33. But in the end Harper watched from the sidelines as Wyatt and Orton settled their differences one-on-one.

Now that the dust has settled on the Wyatt Family break-up, it's difficult to see how Harper can feasibly win back the momentum required to make a genuine push for the world title.

In Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, and Baron Corbin, there are a host of big names on SmackDown that stand between him and the main event, and all of them are younger than the 37-year-old.
