8 WWE Superstars Who Could Have Surpassed John Cena As “The Guy”

7. Bobby Lashley

You took one glance at Bobby Lashley and he unquestionably looked like a guy who could have carried a company on his shoulders... literally. Then his matches started and he wasn't exactly anything out of the ordinary, with the exception of his sheer strength. His promos were even worse.

Nevertheless, that didn't stop WWE from pushing him toward the top of the card during his brief tenure, going so far as to associate him with Donald Trump and beat the once-unstoppable Umaga at WrestleMania 23. He then set his sights on WWE champion John Cena, who he was primed to beat for the belt at The Great American Bash 2007.

Despite a strong showing, Lashley fell short of victory, when he in reality, he should have been the one to end Cena's record-setting reign as champ. He would have benefited huge from that victory, but instead, he was placed in a program with Mr. Kennedy and immediately injured no more than a few weeks later.

Lashley was never seen in WWE again after that.
