8 WWE WrestleManias That Had A "Real" Main Event in the Midcard

7. WrestleMania 13 (1997)

WrestleMania 13 was a doomed show. Thanks to Shawn Michaels being a ripe w*nker and exaggerating an injury to avoid losing to Bret Hart, the planned rematch from the main event of WrestleMania XII was scrapped in favor of The Undertaker vs. Sid in the battle of big, sweaty men.

Even in the build to this PPV, it was clear Sid and 'Taker wasn't exactly WWE's highest priority. The two giants were both faces, and neither really developed any sort of issue between each other in the build on television. Instead, most of the creative energy was devoted to the continuing issues between Bret Hart and Steve Austin, which had been brewing since before the previous Survivor Series.

Third to last on the card was Hart and Austins 5-star classic, which featured the iconic double turn that made Stone Cold the top face in the company. 'Taker and Sid stood no chance, and they had a predictably lumbering match in the main event that featured plenty of shenanigans just to assure something interesting would happen.

Fun fact: after Bret went backstage, 'Taker pulled him to the side and said he and Sid were screwed. It must have been demoralizing to have your first WrestleMania main event be undercut, but don't feel bad for 'Taker. He would get his due in time (more on that later).
