9 Next WWE Steps For Dean Ambrose

After tackling Cena, is it time for The Lunatic Fringe to face The Viper?

It’s been quite a summer for Dean Ambrose and, mainly, for all the right reasons.

He kicked it off by capturing the Money in the Bank briefcase, before cashing it in that very same night to win his maiden WWE World Heavyweight Championship from his age-old rival Seth Rollins. SmackDown then selected him as the brand’s number one Draft pick, either side of a number of successful title defences, primarily against that man Rollins again.

Things went on to hit a bit of a stutter after AJ Styles robbed him of the belt with a dastardly low blow at Backlash, but he then defeated the irrepressible John Cena on SmackDown this week, suggesting that things may be one the up once more.

That victory, plus his position as one of two contenders to AJ’s WWE World title, means that one or two of Ambrose’s next steps have already been mapped out by the company. Beyond that though, there are plenty of other points that’ll likely be featuring on Ambrose’s to-do list, and this article looks into a few of them, as we round up nine potential next steps for former WWE World Champion.

9. Milk That Cena Win

First things first; Dean Ambrose has just beaten John Cena live on WWE weekly programing and clean in the middle of the ring.

For a bit of perspective, one eagle-eyed reddit user noted that the last time Cena lost clean via pinfall or submission on Raw or SmackDown, was way back in October of 2009 when he tasted defeat to Triple H. And as far as I can tell he was bang on the money, making Ambrose’s win the first clean pin that Cena’s taken on weekly television in almost seven years.

Long story short; that’s huge, and so Ambrose needs to treat it that way.

Just as AJ Styles was sure to remind us that he beat up John Cena at SummerSlam, Ambrose needs to do the same to prove to the doubters that he really is as good as he thinks he is.

We saw glimpses of this on Talking Smack, when Ambrose went off on an awesome tirade addressing Cena and the victory. In my eyes, Ambrose’s most immediate next step should be using that ramble as the basis for a promo on SmackDown next week to milk the Cena win for all it's worth.
