9 Things GFW Must Do Better Than Impact

9. Ditch The Comedy

Swoggle And Rockstar Spud
Impact

One of the biggest complaints lobbed against TNA since its inception has been that the promotion basically feels like a knock-off of WWE. While ROH and Lucha Underground have developed their own distinct style, TNA largely looked to their much larger competitor for inspiration. They just could never do it half as well.

Besides using many of the same wrestlers, announcers, and booking crutches, bizarrely enough, they have a similar sense of humor. That is one of the worst things they could possibly copy.

Unless you’re a huge mark for the words “slap nuts”, you probably don’t think of Jeff Jarrett as a funny guy. That’s fine. Most people on the planet aren’t overly amusing. However, if Double J was self-aware, he could at least realize his sense of humor isn’t exactly very modern.

For example, Swoggle and Rockstar Spud have had one of the longest running feuds in the promotion. It’s based off of a man getting his pants pulled down. If someone showed clips of it to Vince McMahon, he’d probably die of laughter. However, the 71-year-old is not known for his comedic stylings either and his immature humor has been the stuff of legend. Throw in Jeremy Borash and Joseph Park acting like they’re straight out of a sitcom from ABC’s TGIF in the late ‘90s and you have a company that is bathing in lameness.

Simply, if you can’t do comedy effectively, then don’t do at all. Dial it back GFW.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
