9 Times Triple H Stole The Spotlight

8. WrestleMania 2000

WrestleMania is traditionally known as the feel-good show of the year—the event at which a babyface comes good in the end with everybody being sent home happy.

That formula was generally followed in each of the pay-per-view’s first fifteen installments, until the trend was bucked at WrestleMania 2000 when Triple H—a heel—ended the evening as WWF Champion.

Prior to that, the only time a good guy had lost a WrestleMania main event was when he’d been up against another good guy, such as when Ultimate Warrior beat Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI. Or, as we saw at ‘Mania IX, when another babyface had later shown up to avenge the loss and, again, send the crowd home happy.

And yet here was the bad guy Triple H winning the world title in a match that featured both The Rock and Mick Foley, two of the biggest babyfaces in company history.

Granted, Rock got some retribution in a post-match beatdown, and he did capture the title the following month, but his win should really have arrived at WrestleMania instead of having Triple H reign supreme.
