8. John Cena Manipulates Us Into A Frenzy At Brock Lesnar’s Return

Cena again, because for all it might be cool to dislike him, he’s really, really good at this. No better illustration can be found than at the climax of the Raw the night after WrestleMania XXVIII. Cena had lost his match with The Rock, who had already emerged for a traditional later era Rock evangelical hype promo. The morose John walked out before a smart and vocal crowd who were hopped up on sugary drinks and the internet rumour that Brock Lesnar was about to re-debut with the WWE.

Instantly, Cena lost control of the crowd. He was supposed to be introducing The Rock for another segment, but the crowd weren't having any of it. "We Want Brock!" they chanted..

"I understand the excitement in the air," said Cena, desperation crossing his meaty face. As he dolefully introduced The Rock amid the catcalls of the audience, it seemed the biggest Raw of the year had completely lost control of its climactic segment.

Then Brock Lesnar’s music hit. The Minnesotan Death Bear stomped to the ring to one of the greatest collective fangasms the WWE has ever seen. He F-5’d Cena, walked away again, and left the crowd so completely in the palm of the WWE’s hand they might as well have been wearing Cena sweatbands.

The crowd believed Cena had lost control. They believed he had finally shed all respect the audience had for him and what he stood for. And he let them believe it, because again, he’s really good at this.
