Last night's SmackDown, like the episode of Raw that preceded it 24 hours prior, promised much.

The revived King of the Ring tournament looked set to deliver an exciting high-workrate, feud-ending/continuing clash between Andrade and Apollo Crews as well as Kevin Owens vs. Elias which, at the very least, would keep the Shane McMahon storyline bubbling away. On top of this, Buddy Murphy challenged Daniel Bryan one week after his awesome clash with Roman Reigns, though the former WWE Champion had more than just the old Cruiserweight standout on his agenda: this, after all, was the night him and Rowan had promised to reveal Reigns' attacker.

Did SmackDown deliver?

Yes and no.

For the most part, it was another successful show to continue WWE TV's recent hot streak. This is in spite of its problems. Cracks are starting to emerge in some of the blue brand's biggest programmes. Recent trends have earned WWE the trust to turn it around, but SD's concerns shouldn't be swept under the rug either.
