AEW/NJPW Cancelled THIS Huge Young Bucks Plan For Forbidden Door

Here's what AEW x NJPW originally had planned for the Bucks at Forbidden Door.

The Young Bucks teamed with Bullet Club ally El Phantasmo in a defeat to Sting, Shingo Takagi, and Darby Allin at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door (26 June), though this wasn't what New Japan booker Gedo originally had in mind for the Jackson brothers.

Per the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Gedo wanted Matt and Nick to become IWGP Tag Team Champions on the collaborative supercard. The Bucks would have put their AEW championships on the line against whoever was holding the IWGP straps in the original plan (United Empire's Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb carried them into the show), emerging victorious and becoming double champions.

Instead, the decision-makers opted for FTR to become IWGP Tag Team Champions in a three-way match with United Empire and Roppongi Vice, thus making them NJPW, ROH, and AAA's top duos title-holders. The Bucks agreed with this decision, feeling that having FTR hold three championships simultaneously is a good story.

Meltzer also notes the current push for The Young Bucks to wrestle FTR, with all four championships on the line.

Matt and Nick are yet to defend their newly-won AEW World Tag Team Titles after taking them from Jurassic Express on AEW Rampage's 15 June episode.
