Batista Rumoured For The Avengers 3

A report links WWE and Guardians of the Galaxy star to Avengers 3 in a major way.

A report from Cinema Blend has linked Dave Bautista - known to WWE fans as Batista, a former champion and member of Evolution who went on a recent return run with the company prior to taking time off the promote the blockbuster Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy - to the planned third Avengers movie. The first sequel in the franchise, Age of Ultron, is currently in production with all the major cast and director Joss Whedon returning. Bautista received mostly positive reviews for his role as Drax the Destroyer, an alien out for revenge over the murder of his family, in Guardians of the Galaxy. He showed comedic timing most didn't know he had, and the role was a breakthrough moment for the wrestling star in Hollywood. The report suggests that Bautista is having his contract restructured to allow for more appearances (and, presumably, more money). The suggestion is that the Infinity Stones, which have linked the worlds of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers together by way of Thor: The Dark World, will play a key role in Avengers 3, and allow for heroes from both franchises to cross over. This would parallel the storyline of the stones in comic book form, where in "Infinity Gauntlet" superheroes from across the galaxy team up to take on Thanos (already present in the Marvel cinematic universe), who used the stones to acquire God-like powers. Drax has a huge role in this storyline, though we won't spoil why. This is a huge step in Bautista's Hollywood career. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is a lock, given the success and positive reviews of the first movie; it wound up one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, and Dave Bautista, long removed from his Deacon Batista days, was a large part of that. Bautista is currently involved in a remake of the movie Kickboxer, which also stars UFC All-time great Georges St. Pierre (who has also appeared in the Marvel universe).
